I have been an elementary teacher for seven years and this will be my third year teaching third grade at MICS. Before coming to Mountain Island Charter I worked in Florida teaching third, fourth, and fifth grade.
Once upon a time I lived in Africa, then bounced around the states between California, New York, Florida, and North Carolina. Along the way I did a bit of everything before realizing that my favorite thing to do was to learn - and the best way to do that was to teach.
I love to learn, and I bring this love to my teaching both by encouraging a love of learning in my students and by continuously pushing myself to find new and innovative ways to improve my teaching.
Last, I spent some time traveling to Kenya where I worked at several rural schools modeling reading comprehension and vocabulary strategies. I also created some free writing video lessons for LearnZillion, an online resource that is working to provide a free K-12 curriculum.
This summer I worked with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation's Teacher Advisory Council. As part of the council, I work to provide teacher voice, feedback and guidance to the foundation
