Reading
In reading, students have been pushing their thinking as they research their new animals. Our goal is to build student's knowledge about their new animals until they are experts - which may involve pushing them to dig deeper when they say, "But I already know everything. . ." . One way we have been doing this in class is to have students compare and contrast different things they have learned about their animal. This work will get them ready for next week when they will begin comparing and contrasting the two animals they have studied in this unit.
Writing
In writing, our class has finished up their first fairy tale adaptation! Their first story was meant to get students familiar with the format of writing a structured story with a clear beginning, middle, and end. Their next adaptation will be based on a fairy tale of their choice and will push students to also include a lesson or theme that the main character learns by the end.
Math
In math we have FINALLY completed our module on fractions. This is easily the longest module in third grade as fractions are incredibly important. Moving forward we will be continuing to review and use fractions in class, but thankfully can take a bit of a breather from them for a while. Next week, we will be diving into representing data using line plots!
Integrated Studies
Finally, in integrated studies we are wrapping up our unit on North Carolina's Geography. For our culminating project, students have been working to create commercials to convince people to visit NC as tourists and move to live here. To accomplish this students are using everything we have learned about North Carolina's regions and I can't wait to share them with you when they are completed!
Have a great weekend!
