Weekend Update: Reader's Theater & Cursive Writing

Reading
In reading this week we are changing gears and working on some readers theater. Students will be choosing plays they want to perform , building props, practicing their fluency, and having a blast.
Writing
After wrapping up our poetry unit, we will be having a celebration on Tuesday in which students will be sharing their poetry projects with a 1st grade class. The rest of the week we will be working on practicing cursive writing. This is an excellent opportunity for students to practice handwriting skills as we transition to our next full writing unit.
Math
This week in math we will be pushing students to use their understanding of multiplication to find the areas of large shapes. This will require students to break down larger numbers in order to multiply:
This week students will also be introduced to complex shapes that they will need to break down into different types of rectangles in order to determine the area:

This week we will be continuing to learn about what life is like in China by comparing and contrasting what we know about China and the United States.
